Para Para Paravai-Pathos of a Longing Wife

What can i say about Vairamuthu sir or whom am i to even comment when he is in full flow. There have been horrible lyrics like “senthamizh naattu tamizhachiyee” dripping with misogyny notwithstanding, this song compels you to shed few tears about a longing wife’s yearning of her husband lost in sea. The song has some complex music notes and arrangements too, that N.R.Raghunanthan will be remembered for long.  I liked Shreya Ghosal’s version over Chinmayee not that Chinmayee is any less talented, but i am more biased to Shreya…Of the many things that i desire in heaven, her voice would definitely be one among them!

Para para paravai ondru
Kara kara kara karaiyil nindru
Kanneeril kadal neerai nanaikkuthe

A fluttery fluttery bird
Standing on the shorey shore in alarm
Is making the sea wet with her tears

Kada kada kada kadalukkulle
Pada pada pada idhayam thedi
Kanneellaam thee valarthu thudikkuthe

Deep under the seay sea
She is searching the twitchy twitchy heart
With a reddish forlorn eyes burning with fire,

En dhevan pona thisaiyile
Jeevan serthu anuppinen
En jeevan vanthu seruma
Dhegam meendum vaazhumaa
Idho endhan kanneer andha alai serum
Alai marupadi unnidam varuma

I sent in the direction of my dear,
My life along , clutching his soul
Will my life be back with me
And will this lifeless soul regain life
My tears mingles with the surge here
And will this surge yoke you there

Para para paravai …
A fluttery fluttery bird
Standing on the shorey shore in alarm
Is making the sea wet with her tears

Thanneeril valaiyum nirkum
Thanneera valaiyil nirkum
Enthevan eppodhum thirigiraan
Kaatrukku tamizhum theriyum
Kannaalan thisaiyum theriyum
Kattaayam thunbam sollum marakkiraan
Unathu vervai en maarbukkul
Pisukku pisukkendru kidakkuthe
Eera vervaigal theeravum
Enathu uyirpasi kaaivatha
Vaanum mannum koodum podhu
Naanum neeyum koodaamal vaazhvatu kodumai

Sea can hold the fishing mesh
Can the fishing mesh hold the sea
My love floats in me like the sea
Breeze knows tamil
And she knows about my cherub’s sail too
He is hiding sorrow with his silence
Your exudate on my breasts
Is still fresh and sticky
And when these dry and fade
Should my carnal desire end too
When sky and earth meet at horizon in unison
It is awful that we are separated and do not copulate often

Para para paravai ….
A fluttery fluttering bird
Standing on the shorey shore in alarm
Is making the sea wet with her tears

Oorengum mazhaiyum illai
Verengum puyalum illai
Endraalum nenjil idi idikuthe
Kannaalan nilaimai enna
Kadalodu parthu solla
Kokkukum naaraikkum kan alaiyuthe
Neerin magan endhan kaadhalan
Neerin karunaiyil vaazhuvaan
Indru naalaikkul meeluvaan
Enathu penmaiyai aaluvaan
Ennai meendum theendum podhu
Kaadhaal dhevan irumurai mudhaliravugal peruvaan

No rains anywhere near my sight
Nor are signs of storm close by
But still my soul thunders and roars with your longing
What is my cherub’s state?
Can you search the sea
You storks and egrets and inform me
My cupid is the son of sea
And will be secure under her arms
He will revisit for sure in the days to come
And will rule my feminine self
And when he caresses me with his tender love
My cupid will experience orgasm twice in heaven

Para para paravai …
A fluttery fluttering bird
Standing on the shorey shore in alarm
Is making the sea wet with her tears
