Ranjith Neha Ghibraan

Poraney Poraney- Lyrically Satin Smooth

Oh! This song is another gem from the movie vaagai sooda vaa which strikes the right chord due to the perfect sync of all the actors involved, i mean both off and on the screen.  Never heard of Karthik Netha as a lyricist, but he has done magic with his metaphors and at the allegorical hints with his deft handling of Tamil. Neha Bhasin and Ranjith could not have sung better than this. The other was Nithyashree and Shrikanth who sung in Kedi Boys and Killadi Girls show in Vijay TV. It made my day when i shared this part “You waft beautifully through my senses,Like a languishing smoke in a burrow ” to my wife and she was floored!!

Poraney Poraney …
Poraney Poraney kathoda thoothalapola
Poraney Poraney povaamathaan Poraney (2)
He is moving away from me,
Like breeze filled with rain droplets
He is leaving in trepidation, and half-heartedly from me (2)

Azhagaai nee neranja
Adadaa pondhukul pugayap pola
You waft beautifully through my senses,
Like a languishing smoke in a burrow

Poraley Poraley kathoda thoothalapola
Poraley Poraley povaamathaan Poraley (2)
She is moving away from me,
Like breeze filled with rain droplets,
She is leaving in trepidation, and half-heartedly from me (2)

Paruvam, thodangi aasavachen,
Illaadha, saaamikum poosavachen
Mazhayil, nenanja kaatha pola,
Manasa neyum nenachuputta
My desire started from teens
And I pled to even non-existent deities
Hail, drenched with breeze was how
You saturated my heart with memories now

Eerakulaaya konjam eravalthaaya
Unna manasa konjam punnayavaya
Aera eranga paarkum rosakaara
Tea thoolu vasam konda mosakkara
Give me a fragment of you, by loaning
As we twin our souls and body, through mating
You the cupid, vacillating between love and bile
And smelled like a whiff of a fresh tea dust, o devil

Ada nellanguruvi onnu manasa manasa
Siru kannanguliyile padhukiruche
Chinna chinna korathi ponnu kannu muliyathaan
Eechangaaya aanjiruche …
A spice finch wanders in my heart
Holding forth in my dimple tight
A tiny little nomad girl, enticed me with her glance
A wild date palm is now in a splice

Poraney Poraney kathoda thoothalapola
Poraney Poraney povaamathaan Poraney  (2)
He is moving away from me,
Like breeze filled with rain droplets
He is leaving in trepidation, and half-heartedly from me (2)

Kennathu nelava naanirundhen,
Kalla erinju kolapiputta
Unna paarthu pesayila
Rendaam murayaa kutha vachaen
Was like a calm reflection of moon in a well
The calmness disrupted by your pebble now
When I speak longing at you
I blossom once again, very well

Mookana kovurapola unnenappu
Cheembaalu vaasam pola un siripu
Adakaakum kozhi pola en thavippu
Posukinnu poothirike en pozhappu
Your thoughts stamp my heart, pulling like bull’s nose strings,
The fresh colostrum is how your tender smile fragrances
My desperation reminds me of the brooding hen fowl
Blossoming my lust, in anticipation of an eventful life

Ada manja kelangae unna nenachi nenachi dhinam
Manasukulla vachi pootikitten
Un pinju viral pathicha manna eduthu naan
Kayathuku poosokitten
Hey you yellow turmeric root, I keep reminiscing each day
And keep you safely ensconced in my soul
I collect the earth caressed by your tender toes
To smear as comfort to my bruises

Poraley.. Poraley.. Poraley.. Poraley..
povaamathaan Poraney
Azhagaai nee neranja
Adadaa pondhukul puviyap pola ..
She is moving away from me,
Like breeze filled with rain droplets,
She is leaving in trepidation, and half-heartedly from me
You waft beautifully through my senses,
Like a languishing smoke in a burrow

Poraney Poraney kathoda thoothalapola
Poraney Poraney povaamathaan Poraney (2)
He is moving away from me,
Like breeze filled with rain droplets,
He is leaving in trepidation, and half-heartedly from me (2)

Poraney ..Poraney ..Poraney ..
He is moving away from me
She is moving away from me

  • this needs an explanation…Mookanan kayiru refers to the rope that is used to control the cows, bullocks and like.. It gets the name as the rope is inserted through the nostrils (Mooku) of the cattle. Here it is used to mean that, her thoughts bind him all the time and guide his path.-Thank you Adhira

  1. This is such a beautiful translation of that awesome song.. Just like the Tamil lyrics has a flare of the regional language, the English version has a class of its own.. Nice one.. 😀
